What better time to do an engagement shoot than in the Autumn at Golden Hour, love the colour of the leaves this time of year, not just the bright red and oranges, but even all the different shades of brown leaves on the floor just make the woods look beautiful.

Combine that with the early setting sun it makes Golden Hour a really easy time to shoot in, without taking up anyones evening 🙂

We met up at around 2pm and just went for a wander through the local woods at Mousehold Heath to take some photographs to celebrate their recent engagement.

I love doing engagement shoots, it’s a great way to break the ice, get to know the couple and give them an idea of what it’s going to be like on their wedding day. It’s the only time that you’ll be with your wedding photographer without the distraction of other people around you, so it’s both a great time to get some lovely shots of the two of you together, but also, the most aware of having your photo taken you’ll be.

The light was stunning, just low enough in the sky that you could see the rays scattering through the leaves and branches, that lovely golden light earning the time slot it’s name. And we had some toys to play with, namely orange smoke grenades from Enola Gaye! Not only giving some great creative shots when the smoke is thick, but really enhancing those golden sun rays!

We were of course very careful to make sure we weren’t in anyones way with the smoke grenades, and took all of the spent ones home to be disposed of. They’re cold-burn, so can be used safely, but please do ensure you’ve done a risk assessment and identified any potential dangers if you are going to do something like this.
